3. Deep Dive: Top “Must-Visit” Spots Beyond the Castles
Pokémon Center Nagoya (Matsuzakaya Nagoya Store)

The recently renovated shop is packed with unique touches celebrating Nagoya culture, making it an absolute blast for both parents and kids.
- The Golden Magikarp and Kinshachi: The most eye-catching feature inside is the “Golden Magikarp” statue. Its arched pose perfectly mimics Nagoya Castle’s iconic Golden Shachihoko (mythical tiger-headed carp roof ornaments). Having just come from the castle, my son and I immediately geeked out, saying, “Hey, it’s just like the Shachihoko we saw earlier!”

- The “Hidden Spot” Between Floors: Don’t just look at the shelves! The walls along the staircase connecting the 1st and 2nd floors feature incredible artwork. It’s easy to miss, but it totally immerses you in the Pokémon world. I highly recommend taking the stairs to check it out!
- Why Celebi?: At the entrance, Pikachu and Celebi welcome you. Fun fact: Celebi has been a special symbol for the Nagoya store since it first opened in 2002, representing the bridge between the “past, present, and future.”
Yabaton (Nagoya Castle Kinshachi Yokocho Store)

To be completely honest, I had never actively gone out of my way to choose Miso-Katsu before, but this single meal completely shattered my preconceptions!
- My Perception of Miso-Katsu Flipped 180°: The rich, slightly sweet miso sauce here is phenomenal. Ever since this trip, Miso-Katsu has officially been promoted to a family favorite—so much so that I find myself instinctively choosing it even at local bento shops back home.
LEGOLAND Japan Resort

If you are traveling with elementary school-aged kids, this theme park is an absolute sweet spot.
- The Joy of Minimal Wait Times: Perhaps because it was January, lines for the attractions moved incredibly fast. We got off the teacups and were able to walk right back on for the next round. It is completely stress-free for kids who hate standing in long lines.
- Minifigure Trading: We brought some old, unused Minifigures from home and traded them with the park staff. My son was completely locked in, having the time of his life choosing his replacements.
- Dad’s Lonely Show Experience: I sent my family ahead to the theater while I paid the bill, planning to meet up inside. Well… I went to the completely wrong venue. Realizing my mistake too late, I ended up watching a children’s show completely by myself—a hilariously awkward, bittersweet core memory (lol).
Sekai no Yamachan Fushimi Store (The Upscale Yamachan)

For our second night’s dinner, we headed to the Fushimi branch, which offers a much calmer, more sophisticated atmosphere than standard locations.
- Enjoying Nagoya Specialties in a Mature Space: The chic interior made it incredibly relaxing for the family. However, the legendary peppery Tebasaki (chicken wings) were a bit too spicy for my 8-year-old son. He got a proper initiation into adult flavors!
4. Where We Stayed: Hotel Review
Hilton Nagoya
For our base camp, we chose the globally trusted Hilton Nagoya.
Combining prime convenience with luxury, it truly earned the title of our family trip’s “main fortress.”
【Dad’s Top Highlights】
- Location: Easy walking distance from Fushimi Subway Station. It sits perfectly between Nagoya Castle to the north and Legoland to the south, making daily transit a breeze.
- Facilities & Pool: Features a fantastic indoor heated pool. Soothing your legs in the water after a long day of logging miles at castles and theme parks feels absolutely heavenly.
- Breakfast & Nutrition: A massive buffet spread. As someone keeping up with regular training, I loved the abundance of high-protein options. It provided the ultimate energy charge every single morning.
- 【Insider Tip】: If you hold a specific Amex card, you get an automatic upgrade to Gold Status. This meant complimentary breakfast for the entire family! Plus, spending 1.5 million yen annually secures a weekend free night award. If you hit up Hiltons a few times a year, this card is easily the “strongest equipment” you can pack for your castle-hunting adventures.
【Kids & Family Check】
- My Son’s Reaction: While he absolutely loved the castles and LEGOs, the luxury hotel room and the night swims had him hyped up the entire stay.
- Comfort: The staff’s hospitality was exceptional, making us feel completely welcome with a child. There are also plenty of convenience stores and casual dining options nearby for quick evening runs.
【Dad’s Final Verdict】
“Premium rest accelerates the next day’s campaign. If you leverage Amex perks wisely, this stands as the ultimate Nagoya base camp for any family who loves history, castles, and LEGO.”
